Roots and studies in the Czech Republic
Liana Braunová Derner studied classical singing at the Pardubice Conservatory and subsequently non-classical fields – pop, jazz and musical – at the J. Ježek Conservatory. She applied these styles in a number of musical productions, including Cinderella (GoJa Music Hall) and Rusalka (Milenium Theatre).
Professional growth in the Czech Republic
For almost ten years she was a member of Richard Handel's music and theatre company. She also worked briefly in the Karlín Music Theatre, collaborated with the swing band Bonus and the vocal-instrumental ensemble ReBelcanto. She gave concerts in Germany, England, Austria, Spain and the Canary Islands.
Kariéra v USA
In 2007, she moved to California, where she performed at the Civic Theater Saratoga and the South Bay Musical Theater. She worked with Opera San José for two seasons (The Marriage of Figaro, La Rondine, La Bohème). Since 2009, she has performed with accordionist Joe Domitrowicz in the Duo Internationale project and has established collaborations with a number of prominent musicians.
NÁVRAT DO ČESKA A SOUČASNÉ AKTIVITY
In 2025, she returned to the Czech music scene. In recent years, she has been focusing on Argentine tango and the work of Astor Piazzolla. With violin virtuoso Jaroslav Svěcený and accordionist Ladislav Horák, she recorded several Piazzolla songs and performed at the Klášterecké hudebný prameny festival with the program Ohnivé rytmy tří světadílů.
She has also created the concert project Home from San Francisco by Bridge, which represents a personal and artistic cross-section of her life between the Czech Republic and the United States. In collaboration with the “first lady of the Czech viola,” Jitka Hosprova, she is preparing concert projects, including a Christmas gala concert in December 2025.
Liana has long been dedicated to musical and pedagogical work with children and participates in charity activities. In 2023, she was appointed ambassador of the Šance pro děti foundation.
